Here is the  decision on the State meet schedule:  the race is ON, as of now the start is delayed to 11:30 for the boy's race. If temps aren't legal by 11:30 we will start at 12 noon, but this decision won't be made until 11:00 tomorrow.

There will be an envelope inside the Wold's front door on Sunday if you wish to drop it off.

Here is what's happening:
 
Monday:  JV conference skiers at the high school for waxing, pre-race strategy
State, relay and conference skiers:  Practice at the beach at Elm.
 
Tuesday:  JV Conference meet at 3:30at Elm; bus pickup 2:15, 2:30 like usual, bring a note.
Relay, conference skiers show up to cheer, ski easy.
State skiers: short intervals.
 
Wednesday:  JV, Conf: Ski at Elm, on your own or with friends. Relay: Easy ski, wax.  State: Wax.
Pasta party at Gibsons
 
Thursday: State and relay: Bus departure at 6:30am from stadium.
Relay at 1pm at Giant's Ridge.
State skiers: Course review, banquet.
 
Friday:  State meet!
 
Everyone:  Keep skiing as long as you can, we often get the best snow in late winter and the trails are less crowded.

Five Qualifiers and a Champion
Friday, February 8
 
Hannah skated to win the girls Section 2 championship by one second in a thrilling come-from-behind victory at Camp Ripley yesterday!
Cathy, John, and Tim also placed in the top ten and joining them at the state meet next week are Laura and Kayla!
Girls placed second overall in a very close race with Wayzata; boys took fourth, only 15 points out of second place.

Last minute plans:  We just heard from the Elk River coach that they have 3k of trails at Woodland for us to race on tomorrow.  Junior high and 1st year skiers will compete in the relays (3 x 3k skate) while varsity and JV practice.
Bus will pick up at MGJH at 2:15, OJH at 2:30, please bring notes for early dismissal.
Senior high skiers: Please check with Gerst or Mrs. Neumann regarding bus departure time.

Congratulations to the girls' team repeating as Conference Champions!!
All-Conference honors went to Hannah, Cathy, Laura, Erin, and Kayla~ 
Boys finished a respectable fifth with All-Conference skiers John Wess and the Jackels brothers...
AC Honorable Mention to Mary and Tommy~
 
NO regular practice today because of the deteriorating conditions in area parks; you can ski at Elm if you would like, but there is a meet going on so please stay out of the way and leave your Crimson/MG clothes at home.
 
Weekend Plans:
Sections skiers:  Bus leaves for Camp Ripley promptly at 7:30am Saturday from the stadium. 
Bring food and drink; you will be home by ~3pm.
Camp Achieve Volunteers:  Please meet at Elm Creek on Saturday morning at 9am.  You will be paired with a young skier from Shriners and will help them learn to ski...you'll be surprised how quickly they catch on!
Lunch will be provided and the event is over by 2.

So, at this point, we only know that we will not be racing tomorrow.
There are a couple of options that the conference coaches are discussing...possibly Elm on Friday or something else after sections...we will post the information as soon as a decision is made.

A busy week coming up:
 
Monday:  The team will be taking a bus to Baker Park for practice on the conference course.  The bus will leave the senior high at 2:30, on to OJH for pickup at 2:45 (please bring a note for 2:35), then MGJH at 3.  We will ski until 5, then the bus will bring the skiers back to MGSH around 5:30.
 
Tuesday:  Practice at Elm Creek followed by the pasta party at Wesslings (more info below!).  The wax room will be open.
 
Wednesday:  Race Day.  ALL skiers will race at conference; JV skiers may choose their racing technique. 
The bus will leave the senior high at 8:00 on Wednesday morning; be sure to let your teachers know that you will be missing school on Wednesday so you can make up any assignments and/or tests.  Parents:  The schools have the ski team roster but you will need to call the attendance line on Wednesday morning to notify them of your skier's absence.

It will be a skate race against Osseo and Park Center and will be followed next week by the classic pursuit.

*Every skier should have their own can of Blue Extra hard wax and a cork!!*
It wastes a lot of practice time waiting for everyone to get their kick on when there are only a couple cans available, plus it isn't fair for two or three skiers to provide wax for the entire team.
You can buy it at Pioneer Midwest, or any ski store, or you can mention it to a coach and we can get you a can for $9, or a can and cork for $14. Put your name on them and keep them handy!

We've got two busy days coming up!
Tonight after practice: the skiers can eat pasta, wax their skis, and pick up their fundraising sweet rolls before heading home for a good pre-race night's sleep.
Tomorrow: Race Day!! The senior high skiers will transport themselves to Elm Creek directly after school. Skiers need to check in with the coaches when they arrive and are strongly encouraged to stay for the entire meet. You need to let a coach know when you are leaving, either on your own or with a parent.
The bus will pick up from MGJH at 2:15 (parents: please write a note for 2:05) and OJH at 2:30 (note for 2:20). The office will have a list of students who are on the team.
The meet is an age-level skate race, skiing 5k on the Valley, Thicket, and Northern Lights trails at Elm Creek.  Map
