To Ski...or not to Ski...
Sunday, January 24
We still don't know for sure if we are able to ski at Woodland Trails in Elk River tomorrow for either the JV conference meet or practice. The online trail report does not sound promising: http://www.skinnyski.com/trails/traildetail.asp?Id=341
But the most recent info from the Elk River coach sounds a little better:
The trails system is still officially closed but the groomers are just waiting to jump on the trails with the new snow coming down. If we get enough - we'll be a go but we'll make the final call tomorrow morning. If it works out - The time schedule looks like it would be
3:45 boys classic,
3:55 girls classic,
4:05 boys skate,
4:20 girls skate.
So maybe they'll get enough snow up there...Bring your skis and race suit tomorrow and then listen for an announcement at school regarding plans for the afternoon. MGJH students bring a note to school to be excused at 2:30 to change clothes just in case we are able to go to Elk River. As of now, the bus picks up at MGJH at 2:45, then OJH at 3:00. OJ skiers can change after school lets out. The senior high bus leaves at 2:30. Varsity conference skiers will practice at Elk River. Buses return to the senior high around 5:30.
Sorry for the uncertainty; we appreciate your flexibility~

Racing Around
Sunday, January 17
We have two races this week: the Conference pursuit race that begins on Tuesday and concludes on Thursday. In the pursuit race, skiers will classic the first day with an interval start. Maple Grove skiers will go out in order of their finish in the classic race on January 5. After this race, everyone will be given a start time for Thursday's skate race based on the difference between the winner's time and their time. So if Skier A wins Tuesday's classic race with a time of 18 minutes, and Skier B finishes in 19:30, then Skier B will start the skate race on Thursday 1:30 after Skier A goes out.

Winter Trip Update
Sunday, December 27
We are settled in at Wolverine Village for the evening after a day of traveling and skiing.
The bus ride was uneventful and pleasant with a stop at the rest area overlooking Duluth and then classic skiing at the Afterhours trails in Brule River State Forest. We arrived in Ironwood mid-afternoon in time to get some skating on the Wolverine trails. The team enjoyed a lasagne dinner, followed by birthday cupcakes for the Jackels boys. Tomorrow the plan is to ski all day at the ABR trails with a night ski back at Wolverine.

Relay Results
Another successful first week of practice ended with some wet relays. Teams of 6 or 7 competed in varying events. Some as simple as hopping on one foot across and the other foot back across the practice football field and some as complex as doing a standing long jump into a forward roll into a push-up over and over across the field and then running back. The rolling v-ups ensured we were equally dirty on all sides. Sorry for whomever has to do the laundry.
The results:
1 Death Eaters (47)
2 Sasquatch (42)
3 Life Cereal (33)
4 Domination (32)
5 Domination of team Domination (31)
6 Chocolate Thunder (30)
7 Crimson (19)
7 Angry Cupcakes (19)
Great Job this week, great enthusiasm and commitment. Falling in the snow will be so much easier than what we went through in the relays, and finishing a ski race will be much easier than finishing the wheelbarrow race. Thanks for your efforts and remember to get some recovery in this weekend.
